Sharon McKoy National Centre for Popular Music Plans for a National Centre for Popular Music in Sheffield's Cultural Industries Quarter had been mooted since the mid 1980s, but it was only at the end of 1996 that Music Heritage - the educational charity charged with developing the Centre - had the final element of its funding approved. NCPM had a Web site from June 1995, including searchable links to a wide range of on-line musical resources. By 1997, this was already looking very dated and was replaced by a second generation site which drew on the promotional CD-ROM designed for the Centre in the early months of the year by Eg.G. The National Centre was always intended to be a highly interactive visitor attraction. In this video clip, Marketing Manager Sharon McKoy describes first how on-line information will be made available to potential visitors. Then when they arrive at the Centre, there will be access to a vast digital pool of multimedia information, to educate and excite. The video also features prominently a virtual tour of the model for the visually spectacular building for the NCPM, designed by architects Branson Coates. Building work was about to begin. | |||||||||||||||
