Bill Ayers Flow Simulation Flow Simulation were quick off the mark in getting involved in the NEO Project: they were the first enterprise to design their own Web site and put it on the NEO server. It made its debut at the NEO public launch on 12/10/1995. And as Bill Ayers described in article in the Network Users' Forum newsletter shortly afterwards, Flow Simulation didn't just take a "build it and they will come" approach to marketing on the Web. They developed incentives to bring people to the site, including a comprehensive set of engineering Web links, and a free downloadable scientific calculator that outstripped the one provided with Microsoft's Windows 95. Bill also took an active role in Usenet newsgroups, mentioning the Web site where relevant, and then Microsoft added a link to Flow Simulation from one of their own pages. All these developments added to the "traffic" on the site. And when the free calculator was reviewed in a software magazine, the hits on the site went through the roof, peaking at over a thousand a day. In the video clip, Bill describes the unique advantages of marketing on the Web for logging potential leads, and also for getting feedback for product development. | |||||||||||||||
